When one launches ePave, one receives a message that invites one to say "yes" to check to see if one has the current version of ePave. Usually the result is a very prompt message that the version of ePave is current.
From time to time, however, I will launch ePave and say "yes" to do this check ... and then there will be no response for about sixty seconds, followed by a dialog box telling me that my version of ePave is not current.
Later I will launch ePave and will again be told that I have a current version of ePave.
My guess is that the version number check calls for ePave to send some sort of query to the Patent Office server, and that most of the time the Patent Office server responds promptly with a version number. (And that the version number in the response matches the version number of your ePave, hence the result message that the version is current.) My guess is further that sometimes the Patent Office server never actually gets around to responding to the query. And that in such a case, the ePave software times out and (unfortunately) displays a result message that should say "timeout" and instead says "your version is not current."
An acquaintance at another firm reports having tried to do an ePave filing one evening, and repeatedly encountering this "your version is not current" result. The acquaintance was never able to get the application filed. Fortunately there was no statutory bar, or it would have been a disaster.
