Workaround for lack of IDS import feature

ePave 5.1d lacks a feature for importing IDS information from a previous IDS into a present IDS.

Michele A. Cimbala says: I asked one of our paralegals about the import feature for IDS's. He said he had never used the import feature. Instead, he said what he has done in the past is the following: To make more than one eIDS that cites the same list of documents:

  1. create the first IDS and the list of documents and save it
  2. create the second, third, etc. IDS, [and type in 1 document only] - then save them and close ePave
  3. copy the XML file that lists the IDS docs from the first IDS folder into the folder(s) containing the 2nd, 3rd IDS etc. (and overwriting the XML that was already created).
  4. next time the 2nd and 3rd filings are opened, the documents from the 1st IDS are in there.

He said this also worked if you are filing an eIDS based on an old IDS that had already been submitted - he just copied the old XML file into the current IDS folder. The IDS's all validated and the submission went through ok - at least in the past. (He hasn't tried this yet with 5.1d.)

Julie Eslick adds: This was not even necessary. I just created the new package for the eIDS, closed out of ePave, went and copied the eIDS file I wanted to use into my new folder, deleted the one already in that file and renamed the one I copied to the current eIDS's folder name. Worked like a charm every time. I especially loved this for cases that had a ton of references and now that they are limiting us to 50 per type again I could scream. =)
