EFS-Web design goal not met

This relates to the e-filed patent application that became publication number US 2006/0176056.

One of the design goals for EFS-Web was that if the filer previews an image in EFS-Web, the preview will faithfully indicate what will later be seen by the Examiner and what will later be published and printed in the issued patent.

As may be seen from these images, the design goal was not met. My suggestion is that in the next release of EFS-Web, this be fixed so that the preview is a faithful preview of what will later be seen by the Examiner and the publishing contractor.

This is what we e-filed, and it is what we saw when we previewed the image in EFS-Web This is how USPTO published the image as Figure 3. Note the cross-hatching artifacts introduced by the conversion from PDF to IFW. Note that contrast between adjacent areas of shading has been badly degraded. This is, by the way, what appears in IFW as well. This is how USPTO published the image on the front page of the publication. Note the even more extreme cross-hatching artifacts on a much coarser scale.
